Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of an Ignis® fireplace?

An ethanol fireplace is environmentally friendly and burns green using bioethanol fireplace fuel. It is easy to install, ideal for indoors or outdoors; A condo, house or loft - on a balcony, patio or garden. They can be easily mounted to a wall, placed in an open space or set on a coffee table.

Do I need a chimney/ flue?

An ethanol fireplace does not need a chimney nor a flue. Bioethanol fuel burns clean and it is non-toxic. It releases heat, water vapor and a minimal amount of carbon dioxide (akin to that of a candle).

Do Ignis® fireplaces release any smoke?

No, the combustion is clean and free of soot. Bioethanol is a clean burning flame.

Does Ethanol Emit an Odor?

No. Ethanol does not smell when it is burning. It will, however, have a smell of alcohol in its raw state and may have a light and brief odor when extinguished, much like a candle when it's put out.

How do I "turn on" my fireplace?

Simply pour the liquid ethanol into the burner's reservoir. We recommend using a funnel and never fill past the "max" line. Once the ethanol has been added, you may ignite it. We recommend using a long lighter or match. Be sure never to add fuel while already lit. Wait at least 15 minutes before adding additional fuel when refilling.

How much heat will my fireplace put out?

This will depend on the model in which you are interested. Please consult the individual product pages for an accurate BTU output for each model.

How long will my fireplace burn?

This too depends on the individual unit and is variable. Most of our fireplaces have a controllable flame, therefore giving you the ability to conserve fuel at your discretion. Please consult the individual product pages for an approximate burn time for each model.

How do I shut my fireplace off?

This will vary depending on the model. In most cases, you will use the tool that comes with the fireplace to close the burner's opening. In other cases, you will use the included snuffer. In both cases, you are eliminating oxygen flow to the flames. For automatic burners, you will simply use the remote control or button on the burner casing.

Can my fireplace be used indoors?

Yes. Because ethanol only emits heat, water vapor and carbon dioxide, there are no fumes or harmful emissions needing ventilation. Ethanol fireplaces are safe for indoors.

How tall will the flames rise in my fireplace?

This too will vary. When fuel diminishes, flame height is reduced as well. Generally, the flame will range between four and twelve inches. This all depends on the environment in which you've placed your fireplace. For example, if you are using it outdoors and it's windy, expect to see a higher flame. On the other hand, if you are using it indoors and you've closed the burner's opening slightly, expect to see a shorter flame.

Can I mount my fireplace on drywall?

Our fireplaces may be mounted on flat, non-combustible material. Although some drywall is non-combustible, it is recommended that you verify it with the manufacturer. If you need assistance in deeming whether it is safe, please contact customer care.

How may I clean my stainless steel burner?

You can easily clean your stainless steel fireplace by using a standard stainless steel spray cleaner found in your local supermarket or hardware store along with a soft cloth to wipe it down. If you choose to remove discoloration of the fuel tray and lid, we recommend removing the fuel tray from the fireplace and use a paste or cream-like stainless steel cleaner and a soft cloth to rub and buff it clean.

Do the flames or heat cause any discoloration to my fireplace?

The heat produced by the fire can cause some discoloration to the fuel tray and lid. Extended and constant use of your fireplace may lead to slight tarnishing and discoloration of the fireplace itself but can easily be cleaned off.

What is the white cloth inside of my burner?

The white cloth inside some fuel trays (burners) is a non-flammable fiber that has been added to create a better dancing flame more evenly across the opening. It is not required to be used and you can still use your fireplace without it. However, if you do use it, make sure it does not cover the small holes inside the top of the fuel tray as they are needed to supply oxygen to the fuel.

What is the difference between EHB and EB ethanol burners?

Ignis® has developed two burner lines. The EB series is composed of a high-grade 304 stainless steel. This series is appropriate for indoor and outdoor projects in both residential and commercial settings. These burners give off the greatest amount of heat between the two lines. The EHB series (Eco-Hybrid) is manufactured using a grade 430 stainless steel. Because of this, this ethanol burner series is appropriate for indoor residential fireplace projects only. Each burner in this series offers an adjustable flame and produces less heat than that of the EB series.
